Our Macaws

Yankee
Good 'Ole Yankee. Yankee is a Military Macaw that has been with us since he was a youngster. He was relinquished to us by a pet store/breeder. Because of his aggressive behavior and deformed beak, they felt they were unable to sell him. Yanks doesn't want much to do with people, sometimes you can get a quick scritch on the top of his head without him taking a swing, but he's got to be in the mood. He does like to play and he likes to dance. His favorite thing to do is tug on an empty paper towel roll with you. You can tell there is a softie in there when you look in his eyes. Yankee is adoptable if the right person can touch his heart.

Rojo & Sinbad
Rojo is so cool. Poor guy just recently lost his best friend Sinbad (pictured on the right...that's Rojo's backside behind her) on Dec. 27, 2007. who died of a heart attack at age 41. I had to add Sinbad in here with Rojo, they were the best of friends. He came from a family who was getting evicted from their house. He speaks fluent Spanish (which unfortunately, we do not) but he loves to sing too. His songs are different verses of "I LOOOOOOVVE YOUUUU...ROOJO IS A PARRROT..I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOU!!!" at the top of his lungs. He also will reluctantly give kisses. He likes to jump...if you jump up and down, he likes to jump on his perch with you. Rojo has been here for about 4 years and seems to tolerate people more then enjoy them. He is adoptable if he bonds with someone.

Chico & Hobo

Chico and Hobo are a pair of "throw aways" that met at the rescue and have become inseparable. They too are more interested in being friends with each other rather then being friends with people. They are, however, quick to accept a treat and become quite excited when they see treats being handed out. They are not aggressive in the least, just uninterested. They are the best watch dogs we could have, alerting us from their window seat if there are any intruders in the front yard. Chico and Hobo are not adoptable.

Jasper

Jasper came to the rescue with Sophie, an Umbrella Cockatoo, after their owner took her own life. When he came to us, he wasn't the friendliest bird we had. Jasper would bend the cage bars together if you got to close. But, he seemed oddly interested in people, so Mike and Jen spent almost a year working with him, and now he's a wonderful bird. He LOVES to play and is hysterical to watch, he swings from every toy in his cage. He has even learned a trick or two... here he is on the right showing you "FLY!!" Jasper won't be at the rescue much longer. Jen and Mike will be bringing him home as soon as they move into their house, so Jasper is no longer adoptable.

Hailey

Hailey and Mike were love at first site. Hailey is a Harlequin Macaw who had flown across the Inner Harbor, landed on the back porch of Mary Thinglestad and screamed at the door for someone to let her in. Rumor has it, Hailey had been seen before with a homeless man who kept her on a chain. Apparently, she got away. Hailey is the spokes-bird for Angel's Avian Rescue, having gone to various events like the Baltimore Pet Expo and helps educate people about the care of parrots. She has TONS of personality and loves to play. Hailey will be going home with Mike and Jen as well once they move. Hailey is not up for adoption.
