Our Cockatoos

Cocoa

Cocoa is a wild caught Moluccan Cockatoo who has been with us for quite sometime. Always quick to greet you with a bashful look and a little "hello", once she warms up, there is no stopping her. Her sentences normally last about twenty minutes apiece complete with facial expressions, laughs, head nods and "hand" gestures. She loves to play catch with a balled up paper towel and jump from cage top to cage top squawking and laughing. Cocoa is not adoptable at this time because of her health and behavioral problems.

Tootoo

Everyone, meet Tootoo.  Tootoo is another Moluccan Cockatoo who's family developed respiratory problems and had to give up their beloved birds.  Although they are not supposed to due to health reasons, they still come to the rescue and visit them often.  Tootoo and Echo, an African Grey, are side by side at the rescue and always will.  We promised their owners that they would always be together and we would keep them safe.  Tutu and his brother Echo are "Lifers" at Angel's Avian Rescue.  Tootoo us an absolute flirt and full of personality.  When you walk into the room, he blows kisses and gives you "The Eye".  He loves to be out and loves to play.  Tootoo is not available for adoption.

Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes takes great pride in being a Cockatoo.  She loves to play, loves to scream, loves to jump from cage top to cage top, she's full of life and expression.  Bright Eyes actually likes living at the rescue.  She was once adopted out, but became depressed and quit eating.  She had lost a bunch of weight and returned about a week.  She quickly popped back to her normal self and we promised her that she would never have to leave again.  Bright Eyes is not available for adoption, but if you would like to sponsor her, check our up coming the "Sponsor a Bird" page.

 Jimmy

Jimmy is one of our little trouble makers.  Jimmy is a Goffin Cockatoo and if he gets out of his cage, you normally find a path of open cages from his cage to Echo's...then he climbs in with Echo and pulls his tail and eats his food.  The real fun part is trying to catch him.  He's a good little bird though...always ready for a neck scritch and really doesn't bite.  Jimmy is currently available for adoption.

 Simon

Simon is everyone's favorite!  There is not one person that comes to the rescue and doesn't fall in love with him.  Impossible to keep in his cage, we finally gave up and just leave his cage door open.  He's choosy about who he'll step up for, but will dance with anyone who is willing.  Simon came to the rescue because his family had a baby and apparently he was aggressive towards him.  Simon is a little skittish, but generally friendly.  He wants your attention, but sometimes doesn't know what to do with it once he gets it...then he runs away.  Simon is currently available for adoption.

Patty

Oh, Patty.  How anyone could not want a wonderful bird like Patty is beyond me!  She is so sweet, never bites and as you can tell from the picture on the right, she just hates attention.  Patty is a throw away...her family just didn't want her any more.  Patty is our helper when we clean the downstairs bird room...she sits on our shoulder and gives me kisses while I change paper.  Patty is possibly available for adoption, but she's one of Gerda's favorites, so it will take some convincing.

Sidney

Sidney a Moluccan Cockatoo who defines his species. He's bi-polar, loves to scream (especially a crow's call), loves to play, loves to cuddle, loves to bite and can destroy an entire 2"x4" in under 30 seconds. He really is a fun bird and thrives on individual attention. He loves to play tug of war with you with his toys and if you do decide to bring him home, don't be alarmed when you hear him flapping his wings, screaming and throwing his toys on the side of the cage...he's just playing...Sidney likes to have fun. Sidney is available for adoption.

Oscar & Patty

Oscar and Patty are a pair of Umbrella Cockatoos and historically have been the most aggressive birds we have. Oscar is a wild caught who had a home for 20 years with his owner, but when his owner's new significant other (of only several months) decided he didn't like Oscar, it was Oscar who lost his home. Oscar was a very affectionate and confident bird when he came here with his owner, but after his owner left, he sat on his perch with his mouth open just a bit and didn't move...he stayed like that for several weeks, only moving to eat.

Patty is another Umbrella that has been with us for about two years, another throw away who has been very aggressive. But one day during one of their "Cage Opening Demonstrations" I found Oscar and Patty cuddled up next to each other on top of our other Patty's cage. So we figured, "Hey, at least they like each other!" So they both moved into a larger cage for the two of them.

Oscar and Patty now live together and although still not very interested in human companionship, they do love each other and most of the time you'll find them cuddled up next to each other on their perch. Oscar and Patty are available for adoption as a pair.

Taco

Taco is a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo who is an Angel's Avian long timer. Taco is a "One person at a time" bird. Whoever's shoulder he's sitting on is his best friend and does not want anyone near to spoil his one-on-one time. He sounds like an old man with emphysema when he talks and his signature phrase is "Taco is a bird brain!" ...no, we didn't teach him that! He also loves to talk to Jasper, a Blue & Gold Macaw. Taco is available for adoption.

Shirley

Shirley is another 'throw away' Umbrella Cockatoo who is absolutely scared of her own shadow. She is particularly scared of men, she quakes if a man walks near her cage. She does, however, respond to Joy and Helen. Joy is actually able to handle her, so if there any ladies out there who would like a gentle Cockatoo, maybe Shirley is the one for you. Shirley is available for adoption.

Gabby

Gabby is another Angel's Avian Old Timer. Gabby is an Umbrella Cockatoo who has been with us for about 15 years. She came with her lifetime friend, Jessie, who passed away this past year. Gabby is a lifer here...she's with us for so long and is so used to it here, we're afraid to move her. She's a sweet girl, always quick to say "hi" in her old-lady voice, give a kiss and she loves a good scritch. Gabby is not available for adoption.

Freddie & Sophie

Freddie and Sophie are a pair of Umbrella Cockatoos that are grouped together here not because they came in together, but because they are getting a home together. One of our Volunteers, Trace is adopting them both. Trace just moved here from Michigan and once is settles in to a new house, Freddie and Sophie are moving in with him.

Freddie is just entirely too much fun. She loves to dance and climbs all over Trace like a human jungle-gym. She loves to swing and just about anything else that involves spending time with her favorite person, Trace. She's also enjoying the great big new cage her Daddy bought her.

Sophie and Freddie are polar opposites. Soph just wants to cuddle. She does like to play, but that's only a pass time for her until Daddy comes to see her. As you can see on the right, she is a trusting bird and loves anything that will get her attention. She got a nice new cage from Daddy too, but neither of them can wait to get to their new forever home. Obviously, Freddie and Sophie are no longer available for adoption.
