Angel's Avian Rescue

The mission of Angel’s Avian Rescue is to provide rescue, sanctuary and rehabilitation for displaced, neglected and unwanted parrots. We are the parrot rescue and adoption service of Wildlife Rescue, Inc. which is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization in Hampstead, MD. Wildlife Rescue, Inc., formerly Wild Bird Rescue, Inc., was founded in 1994 by Gerda Deterer and her husband Wayne as a sanctuary for the care and rehabilitation of injured or abandoned wild birds. As Gerda and her all-volunteer staff gained various rehabilitation certifications and expanded the facility, Wild Bird Rescue, Inc became Wildlife Rescue, Inc. and cares for all types of wildlife. Wildlife Rescue, Inc. has received the "Best in America" award from Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).

Until recently, we have not advertised that we rescue parrots as well as wildlife, All adoptions, relinquishes and placements have been done by word of mouth through local bird clubs and the veterinarian offices that work with us. Since we are near capacity, we’ve come to realize that we cannot accommodate future parrots in need unless we actively seek adoption for some of the wonderful birds we have now.

We currently provide sanctuary and rehabilitation for over 60 parrots. We have had as many as 90. We provide permanent sanctuary for any parrot deemed not adoptable, although we like to think with enough care and patience, any parrot can become adoptable.
